The Best Time to Visit Prescott (Month by Month)

June 9, 2026 · The Owners

Prescott is a true four-season town. Here's what each season is really like — weather, crowds, and events — so you can pick the perfect time to visit.

One of the best things about Prescott is that there’s no bad time to come — it’s a genuine four-season mountain town. But each season has its own personality. Here’s the honest breakdown so you can pick yours.

Summer (June–August) — peak season

This is the big one. While Phoenix bakes past 110°F, Prescott settles into the 80s with cool evenings — which is exactly why the lakes, trails, and patios fill up. Expect afternoon monsoon storms in July and August (dramatic, brief, and a relief), and the World’s Oldest Rodeo over the Fourth of July. It’s the busiest and most festive time, so book early. More in our summer events guide and escaping the Phoenix heat.

Fall (September–November) — the local favorite

Quietly the best season. The cottonwoods and oaks turn gold, the air goes crisp, the summer crowds thin out, and the hiking weather is about as good as it gets. Peak color usually lands in mid-October to early November up at our elevation. See our Prescott in the fall guide.

Winter (December–February) — cozy & festive

Yes, it snows here. Prescott leans all the way into being “Arizona’s Christmas City,” with the Courthouse Plaza lighting and a genuinely magical downtown. Days are cool, nights are cold, and a wood-burning fireplace and a hot tub have never felt better. Details in winter in Prescott.

Spring (March–May) — wildflowers & mild days

Wildflowers, green hillsides, and arguably the most comfortable hiking weather of the year. Spring is mild, uncrowded, and underrated — a great time to beat both the heat and the peak-season prices.

Quick picks

  • Best weather: May, late September, and October.
  • Fewest crowds / best value: late fall and winter weekdays.
  • Most to do: summer (with the events) — just reserve ahead.

Whenever you come, our two cabins in the Groom Creek pines put you minutes from all of it. Check availability.
